Pew Upholstery in New Jersey: Temple Emanu-El Transformation
Savanna Williams-Bowlin
When Temple Emanu-El in Edison, New Jersey, started a larger construction project, the seating needed attention too. Pews and chairs were structurally fine; the dark blue fabric was worn and out of step with the new vision. Sharpe’s Church Interiors re-covered the contoured foam seating in light gray.
Contoured foam, not a rip-and-replace
Their seating uses contoured foam — not a flat slab. We kept that foam and re-covered each piece carefully so comfort stayed and the look changed. That kind of detail work is normal on our pew upholstery jobs when the padding underneath is still good.

Blue to light gray
Dark blue gave way to a modern light gray that brightens the room and lines up with the broader renovation. You can follow Temple Emanu-El’s larger build on their construction updates page.

How it landed
The congregation liked the lighter look and how it tied into the rest of the renovation. Refreshing fabric instead of replacing furniture is usually the smarter spend when frames and foam are still sound.
