Church Theater Seating

Folding theater seats can increase capacity because the throw is smaller than a pew. We supply commercial auditorium seats, bring samples to your church, and plan hybrid pew-and-theater layouts.

Is this the right fit?

Where church theater seating makes sense

Theater seats look modern and professional and give everyone a defined, cushioned seat. They are the right fit for some rooms and the wrong fit for others.

  • Gyms, multi-use rooms, and new auditoriums
  • Overflow and secondary worship spaces
  • Rooms where capacity matters and every row counts
  • Hybrid layouts that keep pews in the main section

Historic sanctuaries usually keep pews. Theater seats confine each person to one space and are hard to reupholster when they wear out, so for most traditional rooms we’ll tell you to keep the pews.

Process

How a theater seating project works

  1. Capacity study

  2. Samples on site

We bring seat and fabric samples to your church so the committee can sit in them.

  3. Layout and quote

Rows, aisles, and any pew-and-theater combination are drawn up and quoted.

  4. Install

Seats are installed to the approved layout. Typical turnaround is 3–4 months.

Planning checklist

Pews, chairs, or theater seats: how to decide

  • Start with how the building is used. If you already have a hall for meals and meetings, the sanctuary can stay pews.

  • Check the floor and the code. Sloped floors and fixed seats bring different rules than a flat floor with pews.

  • Think about how people sit. Pews let families share space. Theater seats give each person a defined spot.

Before you call

How to decide between pews and theater seats

  • Theater seats fit purpose-built rooms. They suit auditoriums where each person needs a defined seat.

  • Fixed seats are harder to refresh. When the fabric wears, the whole seat is a bigger project than recovering a pew.

  • Walk the room with the committee. Ask how the space is used on Sunday, for concerts, and for midweek events.

  • We help at the planning level. If the room needs fixed seats, we help with layout and selection without a builder pitch.

FAQ

Church theater seating questions

Tap a question to read the answer.

When pews are still the right call

Historic sanctuaries usually keep pews. Theater seating belongs in gyms, multi-use rooms, and new auditoriums.

Will theater seats add capacity?

Often, yes. The throw of a folding seat is smaller than a pew, so rows can sit closer. Our capacity study shows the actual numbers for your room.

Can we mix pews and theater seats?

Yes. We build hybrid layouts with pews and theater seats in the same room.

Can theater seats be reupholstered later?

Usually not easily. When they wear out they often have to be replaced, which is one reason traditional sanctuaries keep pews.

How long does it take?

Typical install turnaround is 3–4 months.

Are theater seats better than pews?

For most traditional sanctuaries, no. Pews fit the architecture and are simpler to recover later.

When do theater seats make sense?

Auditorium-style rooms and spaces built for fixed individual seats. Historic sanctuaries usually stay with pews.

Can theater seats be part of a bigger renovation?

Yes. They can sit on the same schedule as flooring and paint when the room calls for them.
