Church Pew Upholstery in North Carolina | Mt. Shiloh Pew Upgrade
Savanna Williams-Bowlin
Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Williamston, NC, had solid wood pews with no padding. They looked traditional — and they felt like it after a long service. Sharpe’s Church Interiors added seat and back upholstery so the congregation could keep the wood look with actual cushioning.

Why seat-and-back made sense
Replacing the pews wasn’t necessary. The frames were solid. Adding foam and fabric to seats and backs was the practical upgrade — more comfort, same sanctuary character, less cost than new furniture.
More on how we approach this on our pew upholstery services page.
What we did in Williamston
These pews started with zero padding. We evaluated the wood, helped pick durable fabric and foam, prepped without chewing up the finish, then upholstered seats and backs for a consistent row-to-row look.
- Walked the sanctuary and planned foam thickness
- Selected fabric built for weekly worship traffic
- Prepped pews while protecting the wood
- Installed seat and back upholstery
- Checked fit and finish before we left

After the upgrade

Mt. Shiloh kept their traditional pew lines with cushioning people can feel. Common reasons churches go this route: better comfort, lower cost than replacement, and fabric that can match the room.
